On April 11, something special happened at the Aldergrove Legion Branch 265.

More than 80 guests came together for a FUNdraising dinner in support of the Legion Foundation. It was a warm and welcoming night, filled with people who care deeply about Veterans.

During the evening, Amber Stewart, Executive Director of the Legion Foundation, spoke about the Veterans Homelessness Program. She shared an idea with the room. The team was hoping to find a ship’s bell—something they could ring each time a Veteran is helped into safe housing.

Then, something wonderful happened.

Doug Hadley, a member of the Aldergrove Legion, quietly stepped out of the room. A short time later, he returned carrying a beautiful nautical bell. It was a powerful and generous moment that surprised everyone in attendance.

Later, a navy Veteran in the crowd shared that sailors who served two or more years on a ship were often given a bell like this. This made the gift even more meaningful. It connected the moment to a proud naval tradition and to the lives of Veterans.

The Legion Foundation is proud to bring this piece of history into our office. This bell will be more than just an object — it will be a symbol of hope, service, and community.

Each time a Veteran is found a home, the bell will ring in celebration. Let’s ring that bell many times this year!

Amber Stewart, Executive Director of the Legion Foundation happily accepts a naval bell from Doug Hadley, a member of Aldergrove Legion Branch 265 and Director of the Legion Foundation.
