GivingTuesday was created in 2012 as a simple idea: a day that encourages people to do good. The idea caught on, and has grown around the world, inspiring hundreds of millions of people to give, collaborate, and celebrate generosity. The Legion Foundation is inviting donors to have an impact this GivingTuesday, November 29, 2022.

During 2022, the Legion Foundation has worked to highlight the need to help those veterans experiencing homelessness (and the root causes). It is estimated that over 1500 veterans experience homelessness across British Columbia each year. With your help:

Cockrell House continues to operate at full capacity, providing transitional housing and support to homeless veterans.

The Veterans Transition Network has been able to respond to their increase in need, delivering mental health services to help veterans reduce and cope with symptoms of PTSD. A total of 6 courses were offered in BC during 2022 with more scheduled in 2023.

The BCIT Military Skills Conversion Program has recently added a pathway to earn a Bachelor of Technology, helping military members receive credit for the skills obtained while in service.

The Vancouver Island Compassion Dogs recently completed their re-accreditation process with Assistance Dogs International, once again meeting the highest standards of excellence for the assistance dog industry.
