How to create a gift to charity in your Will
It is important to talk with your loved ones, your financial planner and/or your lawyer about your wishes. Below are a few examples that could be used to include a gift (bequest) in your Will.
The Legion Foundation receives a share of your estate, but only if prior named beneficiaries have predeceased you.
“In the event that [named beneficiary] does not survive me, I bequeath [x percentage or description] of my estate to the British Columbia / Yukon Command of the Royal Canadian Legion Foundation, Registered Charity 88076 0285 RR0001, for its general purposes.”
The Legion Foundation receives a specific dollar amount or a stated fraction of your estate, or a specified gift of property such as collections, art, books or real estate.

Yes. The Legion Foundation is able to accept gifts of Life Insurance, Securities, Stock options, Real estate, RRSP/RRIF/TFSA and other ways to remember Veterans. It is recommended that you discuss these options with your loved ones, your financial planner and/or your lawyer as there may be different tax benefits associated with each.

Unfortunately, no. Local Legion Branches are separate entities from the Legion Foundation BC/Yukon and in most cases, are not registered charities. The Legion Foundation BC/Yukon is unable to accept funds that are restricted only for Legion Branches. If you wish to make a gift in your Will to your local Legion Branch, please contact them directly.
